Looks like the San Francisco 49ers have gotten back the dynamic duo of Brandon Aiyuk and Brock Purdy, as seen in Monday night’s football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And as that returned, so did their early season form, when they won five straight games.

Quarterback Purdy and wide receiver Aiyuk built a strong defense, as they presented a flawless performance on Monday with a 27-14 victory. The team, standing at 7-3, would soon make a run to get the No. 1 seed in the NFC division.

The two — Purdy and Aiyuk, have been consistently playing together for more than a year now, and share a great chemistry on the field. In a recent appearance on the Tidal League podcast, Aiyuk opened up about what it’s like playing alongside star quarterback Purdy.

The wide receiver said:

Purdy know Purdy, he's gonna do what he has to do to be his best self. Even like..when I talk to him, I think of leading up to the Minnesota game, and he's just like, you know, 'I'm gonna be better for you this week.' And I'm like, 'I'm going to be better for you this week too.' It's just like getting ourselves ready. And continue to push each other, I think that's what the best receiver-quarterback duo do.

WR Aiyuk believes, in the past, there have been instances on the field where there was no chance of getting the ball, but “when you’re playing with a guy like Purdy, you have an opportunity to get the ball on any given play.”

The 49ers roster certainly includes many prominent players, but the level Aiyuk plays on the field makes him stand. This is his fourth season with the team, and he is leading again in receiving with 43 receptions on 61 targets for 831 yards along with four touchdowns.

After the victory against Tampa Bay, quarterback Purdy appreciated WR Aiyuk’s physical abilities on the field, during a press conference. He called the wideout one of the most underrated WR, saying:

You get the ball in his hands, obviously the second gear that he has to pull away from DBs or whoever’s on the field. He does it all. And I think he’s just one of the most underrated receivers in the NFL.

This season, so far, Aiyuk has recorded 19.3 yards per reception, which ranked him second across the NFL, right behind Houston Texans’ WR Noah Brown. If the wideout continues to play in such a manner in the coming weeks this season, then he may set a record of 1,500 yards.
