The Mississippi Supreme Court has made a ruling. It is not in favor of the Green Bay Packers icon Brett Favre. The 53-year-old former quarterback has been taking a lot of losses in the Mississippi Welfare scandal. In that trend, he is now again facing legal issues and is not getting off easy after allegedly misappropriating millions of dollars.

Now, the highest court in the state of Mississippi has refused to remove Favre from the civil lawsuit regarding the welfare scandal according to the Associated Press. Therefore, the Packers icon will continue to be a defendant in the lawsuit. Favre wanted his name removed from the suit since he has already repaid more than $1 million that he allegedly misappropriated.

“Favre repaid that, but he has neither repaid the $1.7 million he arranged for his drug company, Prevacus, to receive in exchange for giving Nancy New stock, nor the $5 million he orchestrated the [University of Southern Mississippi] Athletic Department to receive for a volleyball facility,” attorneys representing Mississippi wrote in their brief to the state’s highest court.

The 11-time Pro Bowl QB hasn’t been criminally charged in the case yet, but if he faced this lawsuit, it would make things very complicated for him. If he defended himself against the suit, he might spill some new information which could lead to prosecutors reopening the criminal case against him. On the other hand, if Favre kept silent, he will lose the civil suit. That’s why he would’ve wanted out of this suit.

Nonetheless, Favre has continuously denied any wrongdoings. He had even filed lawsuits against multiple television personalities, including Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee for accusing him of theft. In those lawsuits, Favre’s attorney team called the allegations “utterly meritless.”

However, now the supreme court has decided there’s enough merit to include Favre in the civil lawsuit. Now the former Packers signal-caller will have to defend himself against the suit.
