Things aren’t just going Brett Maher’s way since the last week. The Cowboys kicker missed yet another extra-point attempt after his nightmare last week against the Buccaneers. Playing the divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys were first to score a touchdown thanks to Dak Prescott’s impressive drive in the first quarter, and once again, all eyes were on kicker Brett Maher as he took the field for an extra-point attempt.

It was a regulation extra-point attempt but to give context, Maher had missed 4 consecutive extra-point last week in the Cowboys’ emphatic win against the Buccaneers. This was the first time in NFL history that a kicker missed 4 consecutive extra points, so naturally, Maher was nervous coming into the 49ers game. All eyes were on him when he took the field and, to his dismay, he choked once again.

His attempt was blocked and to make things worse, he would’ve missed even if the 49ers’ defense didn’t block it. Maher was shocked after his attempt and his reaction was as if he has seen a ghost. The Cowboys didn’t get the extra point but still led the game 6-3 at that moment. It is to be noted that Maher had an amazing regular season where he missed just 3 kicks but currently; he is only one for his last 7 extra-point attempts.

NFL fans, especially Dallas fans, were done putting their trust in Maher. They slammed him for his abysmal run and were shocked to see how consistently bad he could be. They even asked him to quit as the Cowboys looked very hesitant to even take a 3-point attempt.

Unfortunately, Maher wasn’t the only Cowboys player who didn’t have a good start to the 49ers playoff game. Despite scoring a touchdown, QB Dak Prescott had 2 interceptions in the first half itself, but the Cowboys’ defense fired at the right time to keep them in the game. At halftime, the 49ers led the game 9-6.
