The San Francisco 49ers made the Super Bowl after four years. They want to exact revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV four years ago. This time, it’s not Jimmy Garopollo in the quarterback position but it’s Brock Purdy. After an incredible journey to the Super Bowl, he is eager to dominate the Chiefs in the championship game.

Purdy and the Niners overcame a strong Detroit Lions to book their Super Bowl spot. At one point, they were 17 points behind. They want to avoid a situation like this in the final game and try to handle things much more clinically. The second-year quarterback opened up about forcing the issue against the Chiefs and being aggressive from the get-go.

This is what Purdy said:

I feel like all of us, we’re sort of learning just that chip on our shoulder, the mindset of our backs being against the wall and we need it. That’s when our best style of ball comes out, and we all step up to the plate and play our best. So, if we can have that kind of mindset early on, just like we have all year and come out firing away, I think that’s when our defense plays well with that.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have looked unbeatable in the post-season. Hence, Purdy knows what he has to do in the Super Bowl game. Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers offense should not turn the ball over early or else Mahomes could do plenty of damage.

Joe Montana gives his take on Brock Purdy and the ‘game manager’ discussion

Brock Purdy continues to face criticism despite performing well in his first two seasons. The term “game manager” is the word that critics choose to give Purdy. The four-time Vince Lombardi Trophy winner, Joe Montana, provided an insightful analysis of Purdy’s role with the 49ers on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show.

This is what Montana said:

The thing I see [with Purdy] is something that I figured out early on in my career --  what the offense is about. It wasn’t about me. It was about getting the ball to the people who knew what to do with it because I’m the mailman.

Montana praised Purdy for doing what needed to be done. He also praised Purdy for having a calm presence in the pocket. Purdy threw for 5,654 yards and 44 touchdowns in his first two seasons. The 49ers are bound to win a Super Bowl if Purdy can keep progressing well as a passer.
