The San Francisco 49ers suffered a heartbreaking loss against the defending Super Bowl champions. The San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Brock Purdy didn’t hold back from taking the accountability. This season contained plenty of chit-chats regarding his abilities as a quarterback. The second-year quarterback has always proved his critics wrong, whether be it by his performance on the field or taking accountability if things go sideways.

Oftentimes, Purdy has proved that he knows the significance of his position. He never steps back from the responsibilities that come with that position. This time, once again, Purdy took the responsibility and put the entire blame upon his head while talking to the media.

This is what Brock Purdy said:

When you have a good offense like the Chiefs do, and [know] what Mahomes can do, for us it’s like, ‘Alright, we have to score touchdowns. We had opportunities to do that, I think.... I got to be better in terms of leading the guys and how I handle things in the huddle, and telling them what to expect -- stuff like that. At the end of the day, we have the team [and] the offense to score touchdowns and I think I failed to put our team in position to do that.

The Iowa State product finished the Super Bowl game by completing 23 out of 38 passes with 255 yards and a passing touchdown. Although Purdy took full accountability for the Niners’ loss, he acknowledged how the whole team collapsed.

Where did things go wrong with the 49ers on Sunday?

As compared to the games that made the 49ers top-seeded NFC team, Purdy couldn’t execute his best gameplay in Sunday’s game. But at the same time, the rest of the team failed to contribute as well.

In the opening drive of the 49ers, Christian McCaffrey lost a fumble to end the first possession of the ball. Late in the third quarter, a fumbled punt return cost the 49ers six penalties – 60 negative yards. Then in the red zone, they had to settle for a third Jake Moody field goal which was, of course, not enough to turn the game in their favor

Things got much worse when Purdy went to the air and picked up 11 yards to throw towards McCaffrey, who ran for 11 yards in an attempt to take the ball to the Chiefs’ 30-yard-line. Sometimes, despite the best efforts, things might not go the desired way. Brock Purdy and the 49ers could still make a strong run next year and make the Super Bowl again.
