Russell Wilson was in attendance during the NBA championship match between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat. The Broncos player was not alone, as his wife, American R&B singer Ciara Princess Wilson, accompanied him to the game. Wilson cheered for the Nuggets as they lifted their first NBA trophy.
It’s something to cheer about, as the quarterback is coming off a dreadful season in the NFL. After 10 long years with the Seattle Seahawks, the 34-year-old decided to try his luck elsewhere.
On March 16, 2022, he moved to Denver as a fourth-round pick. According to Seahawks chairperson Jody Allen, Wilson himself initiated the trade after he was unhappy with the franchise’s firing of offensive line coach Mike Solari. In September, Russell Wilson signed a five-year extension with the Broncos. He will earn a total of $245 million, including $165 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
On paper, it was a massive achievement for them to sign a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. However, the hopes and dreams of ‘Broncos Country‘ came crashing down after a dismal year with them. The signs were there, as Wilson had a less prolific output for the Seahawks the season prior.
The Broncos finished the season with a 4-11 record, their worst since 2010. Naturally, Wilson was singled out by the NFL Twitter account due to the massive prize tag on his back.
Former Seahawks linebacker KJ Wright chipped in, calling Wilson’s trade “the biggest heist in NFL history.” He even went as far as to label the move “one of the worst.”
It seems the nine-time Pro Bowler wants to forget the last season and enjoy the offseason for now, as he visited the Nuggets vs. Heat game.

Russell Wilson needs to turn things around in the 2023 season
Since his last season was a bust, Wilson will be looking to bounce back and let everyone know why he’s a Super Bowl winner. But it will be difficult, as he is not 24 anymore and won’t have the same energy as in his youthful years.
However, he will have the necessary experience that a football player needs to reach the Super Bowl. Following his dig at Wilson’s trade, KJ Wright advised his former teammate that if he doesn’t turn things around, the situation will turn ugly.
Fortunately, Wilson said in a recent interview with ESPN that he feels “lean and mean” and ready for the next season.
Whether he manages to fulfill his promise and take the Broncos to the Promise Land, we will know soon enough.
