Sean Payton chewed out Russell Wilson on Saturday night’s game as the Denver Broncos were down heavy at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. Payton’s side had given up 21 points in the first quarter.

They managed to add seven points at the start of the second quarter, but frustration was building up. It boiled over after the Lions through rookie tight ended Sam LaPortas 8th touchdown of the season.

Denver got possession back of the ball and were at 4th-and-goal from the Lions 1-yard line. Wilson took the chance and punched it in for a touchdown, but it was nullified by the officials ruling it offside. The Broncos decided to take the field goal, which Will Lutz buried to move the scoreboard to 27-10.

After Lutz completed the field goal and returned to the dugout, NFL Network’s camera panned towards Payton. The veteran head coach could be seen galloping toward Wilson. And next, he started shouting at the 35-year-old.

Russell Wison is a highly respected quarterback, and to yell at him on live television doesn’t set a good example. Skip Bayless summed it up perfectly.

The Denver Broncos winning streak came to an end

It’s hard to keep a winning streak, and it had to end at some point. Unfortunately for Sean Payton, he had to suffer their first loss in six games at the hands of his previous disciple, Dan Campbell. Even though the Denver Broncos are one of the best 4th quarter teams, carving out 4 victories from losing positions, it wasn’t meant to be against the Lions, who kept up the pressure.

Campbell’s side added 14 more points in the last five to make sure the points stay in Motor City. Before the game, the Lions head coach had said that his former New Orleans colleague would come to Detroit and try to embarrass them, considering he is a great competitor.

However, it was a completely different scenario in the end. Eminem‘s beloved side became the fourth team in the NFC to record 10 wins this season. Quarterback Jared Goff capped off an impressive win with 24 of 34 for 278 yards and threw 5 touchdowns (first since 2018 when he played for the Rams) without any turnovers. He shares that record with Texans QB CJ Stroud.

The lions are roaring back. Jahmyr Gibbs had 11 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown. Star wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown had another great outing, catching the ball seven times for 112 yards and a touchdown.

For the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson completed 223 yards from 21 completions, 2 touchdowns, and one pick. Jerry Jeudy was the best receiver for Sean Payton’s side with 3 receptions for 74 yards and Courtland Sutton with 5 for 71 yards.

The loss against the Lions means they are now 7-7 for the season and could lose out on playing in the postseason if they taste defeat a couple more times. They will welcome the New England Patriots on Week 16, while Campbell’s team travels to face the Minnesota Vikings.
