The Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson‘s rough year just got rougher as he comes under scrutiny for an alleged funds mismanagement scandal in his Why Not You charity he runs with his wife Ciara Wilson. According to reports, the Why Not You foundation run by the former Super Bowl Champion and his wife only spends about 24.3 cents for every dollar towards charity activities.

As initially reported, a report from the USA Today Network states that the Charity foundation received $7.5 million in revenue and yet only spent $2.8 million in charitable activities in 2012. Following this investigative report, the power couple Russell and Ciara Wilson came under massive scrutiny for mismanaging charity funds in other activities.

And now, the 9-time Pro Bowler Wilson, who won the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2020, has broken his silence and defended his charity foundation from the funds’ mismanagement allegations. The Broncos QB took it to social media to clear the air around the allegations. He posted a minute-long video on his Twitter account explaining his side of the story with the caption, “We will always care more about impact than credit.”

“This means the world to me, has meant the world to me, and will forever mean the world to me,” Wilson said to begin the video. “I just gotta say something. For our Why Not You foundation over the past eight years, we’ve been so freaking blessed to meet so many amazing people, so many amazing kids along the way and to be able to also partner with some amazing brands.”

Furthermore, the Denver Broncos franchise quarterback Russell Wilson also assures that the money he and his wife Singer-songwriter Ciara Wilson raises will always go directly to the children in need.

“With those partnerships, we’ve been fortunate to be able to drive over 10 plus millions of dollars for pediatric cancer, for education and for hunger prevention and so much more,” Wilson said in his social media message. “Those are the things that haven’t really been highlighted and talked about, but I just want to highlight those things, because of those direct partnerships and relationships that money going directly to those in need, immediate need.”

Moreover, Wilson continued that these allegations won’t stop them from doing charity work. “We’re going to keep learning, we’re going to keep growing, we’re going to keep getting better. But also too, we’re going to keep serving,” said Wilson to conclude the video.

Even though Russell Wilson did not show any numbers or records to back up his claim, his word has received a positive reaction on social media and, for the moment, has repaired the damage on his name.
