Denver Broncos just got rid of their first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett after an abysmal season. And now, the Broncos are looking for a head coach and hoping to land Saints’ Sean Payton as their new leader.
The Broncos were considered a Super Bowl contender before the season started, since they got an upgrade at their QB position by trading for Russell Wilson. They gave up multiple first-round picks to the Seattle Seahawks to land their new franchise quarterback. The season obviously did not go the way they wanted, and they ended up firing Nathaniel Hackett.
Now the Broncos are looking to start fresh and build a team around their expensive QB Wilson in hopes of him improving in the upcoming season. Furthermore, they have started to search for their new head coach, many names have been linked with them in the past few days, including Michigan Wolverines HC Jim Harbaugh, who recently released a sketchy statement about his future plans with the Big 12 champions.
Other names, including the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Detroit Lions HC Jim Caldwell, are also linked with the Broncos’ head coach job for the past few days. In addition to that, they are aiming for a big fish now as they plan to interview Saints’ Sean Payton.

Payton announced he’s stepping down from the Saints head coach position to focus more on his personal life. He announced his “retirement” in January 2022 following a rough 9-8 season with the Saints. After a full year away from football, Payton is now ready to be back as a head coach.
He’s still in contract with the Saints and the Broncos are looking to trade for him now according to multiple reports. NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Saints and Broncos are on the same page in Sean Payton’s deal and the Broncos have received permission from the Saints to interview the Super Bowl winning head coach.
“The Broncos and Saints have held discussions centered around Sean Payton and while no deal is in place, the two sides appear to be on the same page about what the compensation would be for a deal,” tweeted Rapoport on Saturday.
The New Orleans Saints reportedly want a first-round draft pick for Payton and they will definitely get it. If not from Broncos, there are many teams that would be willing to trade a first-round pick to a proven winner.
