Caleb Farley took the first flight home on August 22 after hearing the news of his father’s death. The Tennessee Titans cornerback recalls the fateful day as he spoke with WCNC TV.

Farley revealed that one of the neighbors informed him about the details when he was in Nashville. He said that the situation looked dire after his house caught fire due to an explosion, and a body was recovered from the scene.

“It didn’t sound good from the start,” the 24-year-old said to the reporters. According to the Iredell County Fire Department, Robert M. Farley, 61, was discovered dead in the Mooresville house’s debris. Christian Rogers, 25, a family acquaintance, was seen departing the residence by first responders. He was later brought to Charlotte Hospital.

The authorities have yet to determine the cause of the explosion. However, Kent Greene, Director of the Fire Department, speculates that gas might have somehow accumulated over time and that ignition might have triggered the events.

The night was not pleasant for Caleb as he heard the shocking news. “It’s just been a hectic roller coaster of a ride,” he said. “I’ve been leaning on my faith and staying with the principles my father raised me.” His words were getting muffled as he spoke, and tears sparkled at the corner of his eyes. “My father was a stand-up guy, man. My father was a stand-up guy.”

The Tennessee Titans were scheduled for practice on Tuesday when the shocking news reached Great Circle Road’s training facility. Upon hearing the news, the players took a knee to pray for Caleb Farley’s father and family members.

Their expression was somber throughout the day, and it showed during the interview. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media on Tuesday. “What’s most important is that we do everything we can to support him emotionally. Teammates, coaches, organization, and, you know, just shocking, but you gotta focus on Caleb and his family and what we can do to support them,” he said.

Caleb Farley played quarterback at Maiden High School in North Carolina. As a senior, he passed for 1,776 yards with 21 touchdowns and rushed for 2,574 yards with 37 rushing touchdowns. In College, he tried his luck as a wide receiver, but a torn ACL demoted him to the cornerback spot. Despite the setback, Farley continued to shine in his role. He was named First Team All-ACC after recording 20 tackles, four interceptions, and a touchdown.

In 2021, the Titans made him their first-round pick with a four-year, guaranteed $13.945 million contract. However, due to his injury record, Caleb Farley was placed on the injured reserve list last November.
