Brock Purdy became the latest player to make the Super Bowl in his sophomore season. He will play at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next weekend to earn his first championship. Going into the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback has everything to lose and everything to win.

Despite leading the 49ers to consecutive NFC Championship games, Purdy remains harshly criticized. The critics question him on a daily basis. Former player Cam Newton considers him a “game manager” despite the good performances over the last two seasons.

The 49ers’ rising star has a lot of support from his teammates, peers, and some retired superstars. Recently, Calvin Johnson became the latest retired legend to shower praise on Purdy. He made an appearance on Robert Griffin III‘s podcast. This is what he said:

Purdy faces the toughest task of his career in the Super Bowl. He will have to keep up with Patrick Mahomes to win his first Super Bowl. This is the toughest task a sophomore quarterback can handle.

Mahomes is the best player in the league, and he will attempt to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to back-to-back championships and their third Vince Lombardi Trophy. Purdy becomes a legend in everyone’s eyes if he can stop the mighty Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The Detroit Lions gave the 49ers all they could handle in the NFC Championship game. The 49ers were down by 17 at the end of the first half. The 24-year-old Purdy silenced his skeptics and led his team to victory. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown. The San Francisco 49ers return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2020.

The ‘Inside the NFL’ cameras caught the touching moment when San Francisco’s star defensive end Nick Bosa congratulated Purdy following the game.

Brock Purdy led the league in yards per attempt and passer rating. He was one of the best QBs in the league this season, as he threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
