“Fresh new start with another team”: Cam Akers trade talks might not just be rumors, confirms Rams HC Sean McVay
Sean McVay and Cam Akers
Cam Akers‘ time with the Los Angeles Rams might be coming to an end soon. Although HC Sean McVay said that he would never rule out working with Akers, the situation has made the opposite quite apparent.
It has been made very clear that there have been talks to trade the running back. “As of right now, I think the best option for all parties I think would be to explore if there’s a good situation for him with another team,” McVay said.
“If that doesn’t come to fruition, I would never say that him coming back and figuring out the best way to be able utilize him and him being the best player he’s capable of is off the table, I would never speak in absolutes like that.” The fact become clear when Akers missed the game against the Panthers because he and the team were ‘working through something’.
Cam Akers’ time with the Los Angeles Rams will be coming to an end soon
“There is a possibility that we could try to help him look for a fresh new start with another team,” McVay said. “That’s something that we’ve explored. If that doesn’t come to fruition, then we’ll figure out a solution (on) how to best move forward with him here and those will be things that we’ll work towards over the next couple days,” said McVay.
As a rookie, Akers had shown quite the potential as a running back in 2020. However, his second season was all but ruined after an Achilles tear plagued his entire season. After staying with the Rams, however, it seems that his time has come to an end. Any issues that the team and the running back are facing have been kept internal.
“There’s probably a move that will be made in regards to him being with another team,” he said. “If that doesn’t happen, we’ll move forward. There’s a lot of layers to it, but that’s kinda where I’ll keep it,” concluded Sean McVay.
