Youth events are organized to bring out the best of young emerging talents, who usually don’t receive the same amount of exposure as their peers. But Cam Newton probably wasn’t expecting to get attacked by the same guys whom he was trying to help.

A video surfaced on Sunday showcasing the 2015 NFL MVP in an altercation at a 7-on-7 youth football tournament in Atlanta. It started with three to four guys shoving Newton on top of a staircase at the venue. Then pushing and dragging him to the fence. The suddenness of the incident caught people off guard.

Before anyone could intervene, punches were coming in from all directions at the 35-year-old. Eventually, security and the police had to set in and break up the fight at the WeBall Sports x DynastyU 7v7 tournament at B.E.S.T. Academy.

Social media has wild reactions to Cam Newton singlehandedly fending off half a dozen grown men

The Carolina Panthers‘ first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft appeared to have the situation under control, despite the ferocity of the attacks. Upon closer inspection, he did not seem to return any of the punches but rather kept his composure, avoiding all the air hits. He was so in control that the attackers couldn’t even knock off his custom-made hat.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, Mike Cyprian, made a few great observations about the scuffle. He wrote,

Cam Newton took one dude and tossed him off stage, then proceeded to put one dude in a bear hug while grabbing another by the dreads and slung him like a kid all while his hat never came off his head. Stop thinking y’all can put hands on pro athletes!!!

Even former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III had a similar view of Cam Newton defending himself. Griffin wrote,

Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty with one O-lineman that started an NFL game, and no one else recorded an NFL reception, rush attempt, or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one-man army, so you are delulu if you thought some guys jumping him was going to phase him. Hat didn’t even move.

Several others shared their opinions about the fight.

Shannon Sharpe also saw the video called ’embarrassing’ while filming the latest episode of Nightcap with Chad Johnson. Sharpe was brought up; Manning brothers hold similar camps; these types of incidents don’t happen; instead, all the participants are respectful to the organizers.

It's embarassing. It's really embarrassing that somebody takes time out of their day. Out of their schedule. Out of their lives and try to give back, and you are disrespectful and ungrateful. Man! I gotta tell Cam [Newton] way better than me because I don't have patience for my own kids to be disrespectful to me. I will be damned if I let somebody else's kid disrespect me.
Sharpe ranted

Shannon is correct. Newton took his time out to give lessons, and they disrespected him in return.
