The former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the league. During his playing career, which lasted more than a decade, he saw many ups and downs. However, one moment he’ll never forget in his career would be his fumble during the Super Bowl game against the Denver Broncos. More than the fumble itself, the fans still remember him for not jumping on the ball.
Amidst this, the Panthers icon opened up about the infamous incident during a recent episode of his podcast 4th and 1 show. Newton expressed regret for not jumping on the ball.

It ain't no excuse for me not jumping on the fumble. I should've jumped...I should've jumped on the fumble. The competitor in me, if that happens again, duh. This is the Super Bowl. All effort goes to, like, Super Bowl energy. That wasn’t Super Bowl energy. And I think that is what hurts the most.Cam Newton said on the 4th and 1 show
February 7, 2016, was the day Newton will never forget. The media scrutinized him for not showing any effort to recover the ball. Then-reigning NFL MVP stormed out of the press conference before it even began to avoid media questions. Newton never got a second chance to redeem himself in Carolina as they reached the Super Bowl again in his era.
That was [my] time to seize the moment... And I didn't. Looking back at it, I'll never have that opportunity againCam Newton said
So, the man, who left everything on the field every time he stepped on it, is unfortunately still remembered because of his mistake in the biggest game of his career. Even when he criticized the second-year QB Brock Purdy during the 2023 season, many people used the infamous Super Bowl incident to belittle him.
Cam Newton highly praises the Texans rookie C.J. Stroud
The Houston Texans struck gold in the 2023 NFL Draft when they drafted C.J. Stroud to be their franchise quarterback. And now, during a recent episode of The 4th and 1 show, Newton praised Stroud, who made an appearance as a guest episode.

In the episode, Newton told Stroud that nobody in history has had a better rookie campaign than the Texans QB. Stroud humbly recalled that Newton also had a great season. Newton had a remarkable campaign in 2011 when he accumulated 4,757 total yards and 35 total touchdowns.
However, Newton said that Stroud has the upper hand since he led the Texans to a winning record and a playoff victory. Newton’s Panthers had an underwhelming record of 6-10 during his rookie season.
Nonetheless, as Newton mentioned, Stroud had one of the greatest seasons for a rookie QB ever. Now, he is facing the pressure to back it up with a better sophomore campaign in 2024.
