Cam Newton made it clear that he never implied that Brock Purdy was a bad player. The former Panther labeled the San Francisco 49ers’ second-year quarterback as ‘game manager‘, which pissed off the fans and a section of the media.

Last Sunday, Purdy pulled off a 17-point comeback win over the Detroit Lions to lead the 49ers to another Super Bowl appearance in the franchise history. He will be facing the defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, at the Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium.

During the recent segment of his 4th and 1 podcast, Newton acknowledged that Purdy played really well.

Newton isn’t ready to call Purdy the difference-maker on the 49ers team

Despite the sudden praise, Newton isn’t ready to accept that the 24-year-old is one of the top three players in the 49ers squad. On the contrary, he argued that Purdy was the 10th best player on his team, implying that he couldn’t count Purdy as a game-changer.

Newton said,

To be labeled a game-changer, Brock Purdy has to be the best player on the offensive side of the ball. And that’s not the case. I ain’t recanting. Brock Purdy is the 10th-best player on his team.

According to the 2015 league MVP, Purdy is on a hot streak, and he is banking on the Bay Area franchise to clinch the Lombardi Trophy this season.

Yes. Has he been playing out of his mind? Yes. Is he a quarterback who is hot? Yes. So please, world, 49ers, f*cking media, stop the narrative of Cam hating Brock, fuc* no. Brock I hope you'll win the Motherfu*** Super Bowl. I really do.

The 4th and 1 host even shared who the 49ers’ top 10 players are, as per Newton. True enough, he put Purdy in the 10th spot, placing a few defensive players ahead of him.

Judging by the names, the 34-year-old picked ahead of the 9ers quarterback leaves little room for any argument. Whether Purdy is the best player in the San Francisco 49ers squad or not, it’s irrelevant.

The only feature that matters most is that he wins games. If the Lions games and, before that, the Packers games are any indication, then if the 49ers do win the Super Bowl, Purdy may turn out to be the main reason.
