Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton, who was wanted by the Florida Police on a domestic violence charge, surrendered himself on Sunday.

Sutton’s whereabouts have remained questionable since March 7, when his arrest warrant was issued and the Florida police had been pulling all strings to find the cornerback.

It had been reported that he fled the scene of the crime after allegedly battering a woman at a house in Lutz, Florida. The police received the call early in the morning, as per the reports.

After 11 days of the issued warrant, Sutton’s attorney contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, saying that the cornerback would turn himself in on Monday. The CB was booked in the Orient Road Jail in Tampa on Sunday at 8:24 local time.

After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in. Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County.
Said Chad Chronister from the office of Hillsborough County Sheriff

As ESPN previously reported, Sutton is facing a third-degree felony charge for domestic battery by strangulation and may face imprisonment for up to five years. Evidence of the offense was found on the victim’s body.

Sutton signed with the Lions ahead of the 2023 season as an unrestricted free agent on a three-year contract worth $33 million. He played all the games for the Lions last season, including their postseason ones, before the franchise officially released him on March 21.

Lions team president Rod Wood also revealed last week at the owner’s annual meeting that the cornerback had been at Detroit’s facility in Allen Park, Michigan when his warrant was released and the police had been looking for him.

Fortunately, one of his teammates was able to talk to Sutton and encourage him to make the right decision and turn himself in. After this, he also met with Wood, who released him the next day.
