Earlier this year, Nassib was released by the Raiders. Last year, Nassib became the first player in the history of the NFL to come out as gay and then play a game. His announcement was widely supported and many hailed the man for his courage. Ahead of the 2022 season, Nassib is looking for a fresh start in the league.

Recently, Nassib appeared on Good Morning America where he opened up about the time when he came out of the closet. “I just wanted to show that it really doesn’t matter, your sexual orientation.” He went on to say that he is looking for another opportunity in the NFL to show what he is capable of.

The best scenario for me is, like, the best opportunity to show what I got,” Nassib said. “Got a lot in the tank.” While reflecting back to the time when he publicly announced he was gay, Nassib said, “I stared at the phone for, like, an hour just looking at it, trying to hype myself up. The last thing I said was like, ‘You know what, for the kids.’ And pressed post.”

We are making strides in a positive direction,” he added. “It won’t be a perfect road, and we just have to continue the course and make sure that we do it from a place of love and not from a place of animosity,” he added while talking about how the purpose of his announcement was to positively affect others who might be struggling with coming out.
