“I didn’t expect that”: Carson Wentz claps back at Colts owner Jim Irsay’s comments dubbing his time there a “mistake”

Carson Wentz is walking on thin ice in the league. The quarterback has not had a great season ever since his sophomore year in 2017 when he led the Philadelphia Eagles to an 11-2 record. Wentz had a completion percentage of 60.2, passed for over 3,000 yards, and had 33 TDs. The following year he was en route to winning the MVP as he had a completion percentage of 69.6 with over 3,000 passing yards and 21 TDs in total. Unfortunately, he ended up getting injured which led to Nick Foles replacing him and leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl before winning it all.
Ever after, Wentz has not been the same, in 2019 despite having a stellar year and a career-high 4,039 passing yards with 27 TDs and a completion percentage of 63.9. He was eventually traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2021 where Wentz was not the same person that the Eagles drafted. He was now most recently traded to the Washington Commanders.

“It is what it is” Carson Wentz on Jim Irsay’s comments:
Recently in an interview with Colin Cowherd, Carson Wentz spoke about his initial thoughts and reactions to the Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay calling his era in the team a “mistake”. He said, “I mean, it is what it is, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I thought last year was a fun year, I thought we did some incredible things, came up short at the end obviously.”
He enjoyed his season and time in the Indianapolis Colts organization, however, he did not see those comments coming from the owners considering everything was fine between him and the upper management of the team. Wentz also accepted his flaws and acknowledged that he did not have the best season last year.
“I struggled down the stretch there and the timing was poor, I didn’t expect that I didn’t expect things to unfold the way they did and I thought things were in a pretty good place there, I had awesome relationships with every single person in that building, I cannot say enough good things about the people over there,” Wentz added.
Clearly, the quarterback has moved on and harbors no hard feelings, he does not believe there is any bad blood between him and the Colts, he concludes by stating, “He’s entitled to his own opinion and he’s entitled to do what he wants with his football team.”
Wentz is now a Commander, this season all eyes are on him as this is expected to be his last chance to prove himself as a quarterback worthy of starting in the NFL.
