The Kansas City Chiefs’ recent success would not be possible without the genius of HC Andy Reid. He is one of the major reasons why the Chiefs are ruling the NFL and are favorites to win the Super Bowl this season as well, of course with a little sprinkling of Patrick Mahomes magic. The former Philadelphia Eagles head coach joined Kansas City in 2013 and since then, has been instrumental in creating a juggernaut.
Reid recently appeared on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast and talked about the rumors of him hiring personnel to find new concepts and plays in college and high school football. He went on to share a story about how he used a play created by the stadium janitor when he was the assistant head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
“He goes, โI got this play for you.’ And he kept telling me this over and over,” Reid recalled the conversation he had with the janitor. “Finally, I said, โOK, here’s a card. Draw up the play.’ And he drew up the play. I go, โDang, that’s pretty good.” He ended up using the play in the same game and the Packers ended up scoring a touchdown. The janitor, needless to say, was pretty excited when he saw his play unfold in the game.
Since arriving in Kansas City, Reid and the Chiefs have been to three Super Bowls, winning two of them. They have hosted a record five consecutive AFC Championship games and are prime contenders to do so again. Reid is regarded as one of the most innovative coaches in the history of the game. The Chiefs open their season against the Detroit Lions on September 7.
Social media reacts to Andy Reid using a play from the janitor at Green Bay

Andy Reid recently revealed that he once used a play from the janitor when he was with the Green Bay Packers. He appeared on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast and shared the story. That play ended up scoring a touchdown for the Packers.
After this revelation, fans on Twitter (now known as X) were shocked to learn that the HC would take plays from the janitor and use them in an actual game. No wonder he is one of the best in the business at what he does.
Reid was the assistant coach of the Packers from 1992 to 1998. He later became the HC of the Philadelphia Eagles and is now entering his 11th season as the Kansas City Chiefs‘ head coach. He and the Chiefs will hope to defend their Super Bowl title this season, maybe with a little help from the Kansas City janitors.
