Tensions in the Kansas City Chiefs camp are rising as their star defensive tackle Chris Jones continues to holdout due to contract issues. The Chiefs 2023 campaign will start in just a few days with a tough game against the Detroit Lions. Jones not playing in the game will have a huge impact and would be a massive loss for the Chiefs’ defensive unit. That’s why Travis Kelce recently begged Jones to stop the holdout and return to the camp.

Amidst this tense situation, the Chiefs’ defensive tackle shared a cryptic message on social media.“I’m more motivated than ever!” wrote Chris Jones on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. This cryptic tweet comes just a day after Travis Kelce’s request.

During the recent episode of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, Travis and Jason Kelce discussed Jones’ holdout decision. Travis pleaded with Jones to stop scaring him and return to the camp. Furthermore, the Chiefs’ All-Pro tight end also labeled Jones as the best defensive player in the entire league.

Jones is currently entering the last year of his 4-year $80 million deal he signed with the Chiefs before the 2020 regular season. He is now expecting to get paid in the same range as the Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, but the Chiefs aren’t to give him a $31 million a year contract. The Chiefs offered Jones a 3-year $74 m contract but Jones declined the offer according to multiple reports.

Moreover, Jones also fueled the trade rumors by liking a social media post that said Dallas Cowboys would be the perfect suit for him. The Cowboys fan, who made the post, also theorized a trade, where the Cowboys give up a first-rounder for Jones.

Jones has already revealed that he plans to sit out till week 8 of the 2022 regular season if that’s what it will take to get his desired contract. Losing Jones for 8 weeks could be a massive issue for the Kansas City-based football team. However, the Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, isn’t much worried about the whole situation.

The Chiefs are set to take on the tough Detroit Lions team in just a few days. They are expected to play the Lions without one of their cornerstone defensive players Chris Jones due to contract issues. Head coach Andy Reid isn’t focused on that issue.

During the press conference on Sunday’s training camp, the Chiefs’ veteran head coach revealed that he is not focused on Jones’ contract issues and just worried about getting the guys in the building ready for the upcoming season.

Reid and the Chiefs will be looking to make a statement on Thursday with a dominant victory. However, it could go either way for the Chiefs since they will be facing a tough Detroit team without their star defensive tackle.
