Brock Purdy has faced a lot of scrutiny this season, mainly because of the San Francisco 49ers success. The Niners are 7-3 through 10 games of the season. They started their campaign with five wins in a row but then dropped three games on the trot. However, the Niners are back with back-to-back wins against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Purdy has been brilliant in those games but has faced a lot of doubt from the media and fans alike due to his ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ status. The second-year quarterback was selected as the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was forced into the starting lineup in his rookie season due to injuries to other QBs. Purdy quickly made an impact as he led the Niners to the NFC Championship game last season. He was awarded the starting job this season and has been great during the first half of the campaign.

The doubts are still there though, but his teammate and star RB Christian McCaffrey had an answer to all the doubters of Purdy. McCaffrey addressed the “Brock Purdy is only good because of his 49ers teammates” narrative and said:

That's a horrendous statement. That's never been the case. You can make that argument with any quarterback ever. I can show you the tape if you really sit down and watch it of all the amazing throws, the amazing plays, off-schedule plays, checks that he's getting to. It starts with him.

So far this season, Purdy has thrown for 2,662 yards and 18 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions. He has an impressive passer rating of 115.1. Against the Buccaneers on Sunday, the second-year signal-call threw for 333 yards and 3 touchdowns, getting rightful backing from teammate Christian McCaffrey. The Niners will play their next game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.

Brock Purdy ‘honored’ to be the first player in Niners’ history with a perfect passer rating with 20-plus pass attempts

The San Francisco 49ers won their seventh game of the season after taking care of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. Their QB Brock Purdy had a near-perfect game as he completed 21 of his 25 pass attempts for 333 yards and 3 touchdowns. He had a passer rating of 158.3 and became the first Niner since Joe Montana to have a perfect passer rating. However, the second-year QB downplayed his achievement after the game.

Purdy said:

What an honor, yeah at the same time, there's some plays and stuff that I wish I had back. So I'm not completely content with just that, but I thought it was a great game. The guys around me, the coaching, the play calling all of it, so that's a testament to the team, really.

The Niners have now won their last two games and are looking like the early-season favorites again. Their next game is against the Seattle Seahawks and they will hope that their young QB continues his elite production against their division rivals as well.
