Those who know Jared McCain, know very well that he and ‘nail paint’ are no strangers. Apart from his success on the basketball court, the next thing his fans remember him for is his love for nail paints. His fondness for the colors landed him a great NIL deal with the popular nail polish company Sally Hansen.
Despite such popularity surrounding the Blue Devils guard painting his nails, it didn’t stop the NFL wide receiver Cole Beasley from mocking McCain, in an X post (which now has been deleted). But Beasley wasn’t alone in making fun of the basketball player. It was, in fact, Darius Slay who first trolled McCain.
Slay wrote with three laughing emoji, on a post about the Duke star landing the prominent NIL deal for painting his nails.
Man I tell ya.Darius Slay wrote on X
I cant with these dudes. Lol.Cole Beasley replied
Though Slay’s comment didn’t target any specific community, the wide receiver’s comment well reflected his disregard for a community, whom he apparently distinguished by the color of nails they prefer. As both the players received a lot of backlash for trolling McCain, they had to delete their tweets on X.
Meanwhile, the freshman guard hardly cares about such trolls, as he has gotten used to them. He had previously explained why he liked painting his nails, saying it’s a form of ‘self-care,’ plus it prevents him from biting his nails. So, it’s a win-win case. Though he acknowledged people’s disagreements, McCain continues to paint his nails because he likes it.
How NFL’s upcoming star Caleb Williams also challenges norms with pink nails?
While McCain continues to make nail paint gender-neutral in the NBA, the USC star Caleb Williams appears to be following in his footsteps. Recently, the quarterback made the headlines at a women’s basketball game for carrying all pink accessories. From carrying a pink iPhone to wearing pink nails, Williams appeared perfectly dressed for a women’s game.

Unfortunately, just like McCain, Williams became the target of hatred from the NFL fans, as they were unable to digest the potential No. 1 draft pick wearing pink nail paint. Many even questioned his sexual orientation and suggested the NFL teams not to draft him.
The young quarterback had previously explained how since his childhood, his mother being a nail technician has taught him to maintain his nails. And given, that it does not harm, Williams follows her advice to his heart.
