The Carolina Panthers made an amazing move when they traded multiple draft picks along with star wideout D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears in exchange for the No.1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The Bears are all set at quarterback with Justin Fields and they really didn’t need to draft another first-rounder and complicate their situation further.

The Panthers have moved up from the ninth position to the first to have their pick at quarterbacks. TV personality and analyst Colin Cowherd was extremely impressed by Carolina making the move and gave credit to the owner David Tepper for giving the decision to his head owner and general manager about making an informed pick in the draft.

Cowherd said, “David Tepper is thinking to himself instead of my guys settling, I’m gonna give them the power. But now I’m gonna find out if my gm and my coach are competent.” He also added that if the Panthers were down below the draft, they would’ve had to settle for any available quarterback and wouldn’t be to blame if he turned out to be a bust. Now, Tepper has eliminated this option completely and given them the autonomy to pick any quarterback. This will be a very difficult test for Scott Fitterer.

“Tepper is creating real clarity. Find out how good your GM is. It’s his pick. No excuses, no settling. Not taking anybody’s leftovers. It’s all about you. So, I like the move by Carolina,” Cowherd said.

The Panthers are doing their homework as they visit Ohio and Alabama’s pro day

The Panthers have been researching a lot about the prospective quarterbacks in the current draft class. A few days back at Ohio State’s pro day, head coach Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown along with 12 other representatives were present to see C.J. Stroud throw once again and witness his skills. They had dinner with Stroud the day before and are reported to do the same before the draft in April. McCown had an interesting conversation with Stroud that have may lead everyone to draw the conclusion that Stroud is their lock at No.1 overall.

On Thursday, Alabama had its pro day and Bryce Young, who did not throw during the NFL Combine, did show off his insane arm strength. While some scouts are reporting his small size to be an issue, it doesn’t seem to bother head coach Nick Saban who believes Young should be the first overall pick. The Panthers were also present at Alabama’s pro day and were mighty impressed with Bryce Young and had dinner with him as well.

Carolina will repeat the same cycle with other prospective first-round picks such as Anthony Richardson from Florida and Kentucky’s Will Levis. As Colin Cowherd said, the Panthers have the freedom to select any of these young talented quarterbacks but it will be important to choose the best because if the pick turns out to be a bust then it is probably sayonara for Scott Fitterer.

It’ll be interesting to see whom the Panthers pick first overall. The 2023 NFL draft is scheduled between April 27-29, 2023 in Union Stationat Kansas City, Missouri.
