Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot when they lost to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Furthermore, the 39-year-old QB’s actions after the game have reignited his retirement rumors.
After his hideous performance in a must-win game, the veteran QB had an emotional walk in the tunnel with his long-time friend Randall Cobb, which lead to speculations about the QB’s future. The rumors were fueled by a video that spread online after the game. In that video, Lions RB Jamaal Williams asked Rodgers for his game-worn jersey, to which the Packers QB replied, “I gotta hold on to this one.”
Nevertheless, Aaron Rodgers took to the podium after their loss against the Lions and talked about his future plans. The back-to-back MVP said that he is still raw after the loss and needs some time to think about his future plans.
“It’s a little raw right now,” Rodgers said in the press conference. “It’s just a little bit after the game, so (I) want to take the emotion out of it and have conversations and see where the organization’s at and see how I feel after some time has passed.”
His post-season interview did nothing but fuel his retirement rumors and NFL analyst Colin Cowherd blasted Aaron Rodgers on his show for not committing to the Packers in the offseason.
Colin Cowherd blasts Aaron Rodgers

Speaking on his show The Herd with Cowherd, Cowherd blasted Rodgers for playing poorly in must-win games in the last 3 years. He then pulled up a graphic that showed his statistics in the fourth quarter in his last 3 must-win games and said their backup QB, who the Packers moved up to draft, can do the same. “Green Bay had 17 first downs, Jordan Love can do that.. Green Bay was 4 for 12 on 3rd down, Jordan Love can do that,” said Colin about Rodgers playing terribly in big games.
“Aaron Rodgers, third straight year.. not only lost but lost at home, lost as a favorite, and was outplayed in the fourth quarter,” Cowherd continued. “Mahomes isn’t getting outplayed, Burrow not getting outplayed and Josh Allen, they are not getting outplayed at home.”Colin went on to blame Rodgers for not committing to the Packers in the off-season. “He’s not committed in the off-season anymore… He’s 39 and it feels like the team is second in the off-season, It’s time for the grownup talk,” added Colin about Rodgers.
He then went on to say that Green Bay is a good team, which is just a couple of players away from being a complete one. They can address those issues in the draft, but he implied that even if the Packers pick a receiver in the draft Rodgers is not willing worth a rookie in the offseason anymore. “Green Bay’s roster is very good,” said Colin about the Packers. “What they need is another receiver and another tight end and if you look at the mock drafts, that’s what they’re going to do… well Aaron doesn’t really wanna work with them in the offseason.”
Colin then finished his rant by saying that the Packers and Rodgers do not understand the urgency of their situation since all the other NFL teams are getting better and the Packers are not. “San Francisco is getting better, Philadelphia is getting better, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Buffalo these teams are getting better. The league’s pulling away and I don’t think the Packers and Rodgers are on the same timeline.”
Aaron Rodgers signed a 3-year $150 million contract last year with the Packers and if Rodgers decided to walk away from the contract, he might not get his guaranteed money. So, it’s highly unlikely that fans will see Rodgers in a different jersey, but it is a possibility that they might’ve seen the last of Rodgers in the NFL.
