“Dumbest play EVER,” Colin Cowherd LASHES out at the New England Patriots following their humiliating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders
Analyst Colin Cowherd did not hold back as he called out Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots over their disappointing loss.
Colin Cowherd is not a fan of the new culture within the Patriots organization.
The New England Patriots are no longer a team to be feared. The iconic franchise that was known for having built a dynasty under Head Coach Bill Belichick is now witnessing some of its worst days under the same leader. The team has a 7-7 record this season and ranks 3rd in the AFC East behind the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins.
In the recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the New England Patriots suffered against one of the most underwhelming teams in the NFL. Heading into the final seconds of the 4th quarter, the score was tied up 24-24. New England had possession of the ball, and they decided to run it with Rhamondre Stevenson. In a futile attempt to not head into overtime, the RB ran the ball and when the odds of him being tackled were high, he threw a lateral pass to Jakobi Meyers.
The play was still alive and Meyers was meant to run the ball further, however, he ended up throwing it to Mac Jones in hopes that the QB will find a wideout to throw the ball to. This throw by Meyers ended up being intercepted by the Raiders DE Chandler Jones, a former Patriot, who ended up running 48 yards the other way to score a TD that effectively ended the game.
The New England Patriots were one of the smartest NFL teams in history:
The final play was mocked by analysts and fans who were confused about what the Patriots were trying to achieve with this play. Analyst Colin Cowherd dubbed this play to be “The dumbest play I’ve ever seen.” He did not hold back while expressing his disappointment with HC Bill Belichick and the team.
Here’s what Colin had to say, “That ending in that game perfectly encapsulates what’s wrong with New England and what they are now. For 20 years, they were the smartest team. Today, that was the dumbest play I’ve ever seen. They were dynamic…they are 30th in the NFL in passing TDs behind Denver. Belichick and New England fell in love with themselves and their culture.“
Colin went on to add, “New England is the only team in the NFL without a passing TD in the 4th quarter all season…they have family on the staff, the defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, no big deal right? They are embarrassing.“
The Patriots have really fallen this season. The team has not been in this position in a long time. Does the decline of the New England Patriots indicate that it is time for Head Coach Bill Belichick to walk away from the game? That is something to ponder, however, the team has missed the playoffs this season and that is something that fans of the team are not used to witnessing.
