There is a new QB1 in Green Bay after 18 years. Jordan Love will now be the primary signal caller for the Green Bay Packers after Aaron Rodgers signed with the New York Jets this offseason. Love played in Packers’ preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. He completed 7 of his 10 passes for 46 yards and threw a touchdown.

While he was widely praised by the media for his play, Colin Cowherd of the FS1 show ‘The Herd’ had different views. Cowherd compared Love with former Packers quarterbacks Rodgers and Brett Favre. He said, “I think you should have much higher expectations for Jordan Love, for two reasons. Number 1, it’s a much more quarterback-friendly league. You can’t touch the quarterback, you can’t grab a wide receiver. This league, in the NFL, is now built for quarterbacks.”

Cowherd further said, “The second thing is any quarterback drafted in the last decade, quarterback now is an industry, the tutoring, the private coaching, the video is better. Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre did not live generationally in that space”

The veteran analyst further compared Favre and Rodgers’ first seasons as starters. “Favre was already a top 10 quarterback in the league as a rookie who didn’t start his first 4 games. Aaron was already arguably a top 5 quarterback. Jordan Love appears to be, at this point, we think, the fourth-best quarterback in his division.”

Cowherd said that the Packers “don’t have a lot of confidence in Jordan Love” and “everything is safe” when calling plays for the newly appointed QB1. Love will get more reps in the remaining preseason games against the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

Love was drafted in the first round by the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent his first three seasons as a backup to Aaron Rodgers and will now inherit the starting role from him this season.

After spending his first three seasons as Aaron Rodgers’ understudy, Jordan Love will now call the shots at center for the Green Bay Packers. Drafted 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Love will be expected to put all his learnings of the past three seasons to use this year.

Love had an impressive outing in his first preseason game. He will be hoping to continue this in the remaining preseason games and get more comfortable in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

The Packers open their season against division rivals the Chicago Bears on September 10. The Packers did not have a great season in 2022 with Rodgers. They will hope to start their season off on a positive note and get back into the playoffs with a new quarterback in Love.
