The Dallas Cowboys have had a great start to the NFL season, which didn’t look the case after their first week’s defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mike McCarthy-led Cowboys suffered a dealing blow in that week as Dak Prescott injured his thumb and had to be taken out of action subsequently.

It looked all dull and grim for them, right until backup quarterback Cooper Rush came out all guns blazing against the Cincinnati Bengals winning the match for his franchise. Since then, he oversaw three more victories for the Cowboys, during which Dak Prescott remained absent.

However, the dream run finally came to an end last week against the Philadelphia Eagles and incidentally coincided with Dak Prescott making a recovery from his injury. That sparked the question of whether the veteran quarterback would be a match-fit to play against the Detroit Lions for their encounter this season.

And it seems that Prescott will indeed replace Cooper Rush once again as the No.1 quarterback, as indicated by head coach Mike McCarthy. The head coach gave an update on Prescott’s current fitness level and whether it would be enough for him to make a return.

Yeah, everything looks like he’s on track for that,” head coach Mike McCarthy said in the pre-match press conference as reported by ProFootballTalk. “I thought he had a really good day yesterday and we all know what today is and tomorrow will be our last full-speed work. Once we complete that, we’ll check off on it. If you feel like you need to get ahead of yourself, go for it.”

Dak Prescott trained normally on Wednesday and Thursday, for the first time since injuring his right-hand thumb early on in the season. The veteran will also have to perform to the best of his ability given the constraint that his backup Cooper Rush has put in commendable performances during his time out, so much so that there were numerous calls for him to take up the starting quarterback position completely.
