The Dallas Cowboys suffered a heartbreaking exit from the NFL playoffs this season in the Divisional round. The Cowboys fell to a 19-12 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, but nevertheless managed to please owner Jerry Jones in one aspect.
The veteran owner felt proud that the Cowboys had managed to get rid of legendary quarterback Tom Brady‘s side Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round. After the defeat, Brady announced his retirement from the sport.
Therefore, Brady’s final game for the record books would be the one against the Dallas Cowboys in the Wildcard, and Jerry Jones is definitely counting that as a big deal in his franchise’s history. It also helps that the Cowboys have failed to make it big in the playoffs in recent seasons.
Despite their stellar show in the regular season this year, the Cowboys had gone into the game against the Buccaneers as designated underdogs.
“I’m proud of that win. I’m going to hold that Tampa Bay win up just like I do that Herschel Walker ball when we won one game that first year (in 1989), and that was my prize,” Jones said. “We’re proud of that win — he has been outstanding.”

Jones also compared the win against Brady, to a famous win in 1989, which was the debut season for the great man as Cowboys’ owner. In 1989, the Cowboys managed to win only 1 game, against the Washington Redskins ending the season with a 1-15 record.

That particular season is also known for the mega trade of Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings, which went on to bring about success for Jones and the Cowboys in latter seasons, indirectly.
Tom Brady announced his retirement from NFL, for a second time in his career after a tumultuous season. The legendary quarterback ended his 23-year long career with seven Super Bowl rings, and his hopes for a fairytale ending were dashed by the Cowboys in the playoff tie.
Jones might be a happy man, but those who wanted a picture perfect farewell to the veteran quarterback were left with a bad taste in their mouths especially after his decision to quit the game forever.
