The topic of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history has been a popular subject of debate among fans and analysts for many years. Recently, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky caused a stir on social media when he appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” show and listed his top five quarterbacks of all time, deliberately excluding legendary quarterback Joe Montana.

Orlovsky’s list, which consisted of Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Dan Marino, drew a great deal of criticism from fans and other analysts on the show, many of whom felt that Montana was worthy of a place on the list. Montana, who won four Super Bowls and three Super Bowl MVP awards during his illustrious career, is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Despite the criticism, Orlovsky stood by his list and maintained that his criteria for evaluating quarterbacks was based on a combination of statistical performance, consistency, and personal preferences. He acknowledged that Montana was a great quarterback, but argued that he was not among the best of all time in his books.

Even though everyone has their right to uphold their opinions, what gave Orlovsky’s take the absurd angle was the inclusion of the current QB of the Kansas City Chiefs on the number two spot. Mahomes, who is in all likely a future Hall of Famer and had a stellar career so far, is only in his sixth professional career year and only has one Super Bowl victory out of the two he has played. Whereas ‘Joe Cool’ has never lost in a Super Bowl game (4-0), which even Brady has not been able to accomplish (7-3).

With reference to this, his fellow panelist and former WR Keyshawn Johnson instantly lambasted the analyst in the same segment without missing a beat. “Its stupidity. Okay..it is what it is. What the hell is wrong with you Dan!?” Johnson didn’t shy away to bombard some harsh words on Dan. Viewers too and understandably agreed with Johnson’s words.

Social media was abuzz with criticism of Orlovsky’s exclusion of Montana from his list. Fans and analysts took to Twitter and other platforms to voice their disbelief and frustration, with many calling Orlovsky’s decision “stupid” and “ridiculous.” Some pointed out that Montana’s impressive playoff record and clutch performances in big games set him apart from the other quarterbacks on Orlovsky’s list.

Take a look at some of those reactions from the Twitter world.

The debate over the greatest quarterbacks of all time is likely to continue for many years to come. While some fans and analysts may disagree with Orlovsky’s list, it’s important to remember that these kinds of debates are subjective and that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Still, Orlovsky’s controversial opinion doesn’t take away Montana‘s impressive playoff record and clutch performances in big games that have solidified his place as one of the best signal-callers in NFL history.
