“He’s going to be the most dependable thing to a sinking franchise”: Colin Cowherd believes Dak Prescott’s talent will be wasted due to the Cowboys front office’s incompetence

“He’s going to be the most dependable thing to a sinking franchise”: Colin Cowherd believes Dak Prescott’s talent will be wasted due to the Cowboys front office’s incompetence

The Dallas Cowboys have not had the best offseason or draft this year, the team picked Tyler Smith, a guard who has had struggles with penalties during his college career. The Cowboys are already reeling from excessive flags during the season due to offensive penalties. In addition to this, they did not trade for any solid player but they let Amari Cooper, their star wideout go. CeeDee Lamb is the best receiver on paper in that team now but has yet to get out of his shell and shine.

The team has had no issues at the quarterback position, Dak Prescott has been the most consistent thing that they have had and probably the smartest draft pick they have had in a decade. Last year the team secured a diamond in the rough with Micah Parsons, he has excelled and played amazingly. The year before, they got Trevon Diggs, an amazing corner who’ll intercept the ball but at the same time, he will also give up the most yards to the wideout who he is guarding.

“It was not a good offseason at all”: Colin Cowherd criticizes the Cowboys’ offseason moves

Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott is good but unfortunately, he does not have a consistent supporting crew around him

NFL analyst Colin Cowherd reacted to Dak Prescott’s statement citing that “Talent is one thing, but if you don’t fulfill it doesn’t really mean anything. I’m excited for those guys to be able to do that and for them to prove people wrong. I know what this team has.”

Dak is indeed a franchise quarterback, he has a 98.7 passer rating, a completion percentage of 66.6, and a career record of 53-32 which is not bad, it’s good. The big issue with Dallas is their offensive line, with players aging and former Pro Bowlers who are not as good anymore, the team needs to upgrade that. In addition to that, the lack of weapons, the Cowboys have lost more wideouts than drafted or traded in the past couple of seasons and Ezekiel Elliott who was supposed to be a beast has not been anything close to that. He secured the bag but after that, he has had average seasons, one after the other.

Colin fears that Dak Prescott is going into a situation similar to Derek Carr. “What you’re going to see over the next several years he’s going to move into the Derek Carr territory, which is he gets all the heat because of the position he plays but he is going to be the life preserver to a franchise that doesn’t do many things well and that’s Derek Carr,” Colin says.

Due to the lack of sufficient supporting players and the reluctance of the team to get more players who have proven their worth by trading, the Cowboys’ strict policy of drafting and grooming their players seems to not be yielding much fruit, there is change needed.

“Dak early in his career was hoisted up by a surrounding talent, now he is going to be the most dependable thing they have and take more criticism. Derek Carr has been the life preserver for a sinking franchise, finally, now, he has got support. Dak had it early and I don’t think he has much of it.” Colin concludes.

Looking at the Cowboys’ schedule, they have a tough road ahead, the team has had a history of being inconsistent. Will we get to see the Ezekiel Elliott that deserved the bag or will we just see the shadow of the player that he once was? CeeDee Lamb also has to step up to the plate and perform now that Amari Cooper is gone. Only time will tell.
