“I don’t know if anyone is that ignorant”: Dak Prescott lashes out at reporter over his ridiculous question

The recent shootings at the Robb elementary school in Uvalde, Texas have left us all in a state of shock. The entire nation mourned the innocent victims and criticized the heinous nature of the act. Athletes from all sports came together to showcase their support and voiced their opinions on the dire state of gun laws. The Dallas Cowboys team members also took a stand against this act, Dak Prescott and DeMarcus Lawrence both expressed their fears about having and sending their kids to school after such an act.

The team’s quarterback made a powerful statement in the wake of this tragedy. The team is based in Dallas but considering it occurred in a town next to them, it had more impact on them. “Honestly, it makes me fearful to have children, and that’s not right. That’s sad… I don’t care if you’re an athlete or not. We’re talking about children. We’re talking about the future, I mean, I don’t have kids and can’t imagine having to send my kid to school with that anxiety,” Prescott said.

Nobody has told Dak Prescott to stick to just sports yet:

Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott has not been asked to “Shut up and play” by anyone till now

The last time LeBron James, the basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers voiced his opinions on police brutality in the country and the state of affairs in politics, a reporter came on live air and asked him to “Shut up and dribble.” There was a lot of backlash that she received after her comments, however, it is nothing new as politicians and people in power do not like to be questioned or criticized, especially by athletes who they believe have no business or knowledge to interfere in these matters.

Things are different now, athletes just do not shut up and play. An athlete is no less than an activist, every athlete tends to voice their opinions for some cause that is close to their heart. This trend has witnessed a massive surge in the past couple of years. Dak Prescott was asked if he has ever experienced such a thing, especially after his comments urging politicians to indulge in uncomfortable situations about having tighter gun laws.

“No. I don’t know if anyone is that ignorant to tell me that to be honest with you,” Prescott said. This is a good thing, athletes are not being asked to stick to their profession and are able to voice their honest opinions. However, another reason that nobody has had the audacity to suppress athletes’ thoughts is that they saw what happened to the reporter who criticized LeBron James and do not want to be put in the same position as her. Her career took a negative hit after that incident. Change is change no matter what, so it is a positive thing that athletes are no longer just pawns sticking to their sport.
