The Dallas Cowboys had yet another disappointing season which didn’t come as a surprise to fans around the league because that’s exactly what they expected of this team. Dak Prescott-led Cowboys finished the regular season with a 12-5 record, which was a good sign along with their amazing win over the Buccaneers in the wild-card game.

However, the Cowboys tanked against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs and the club continued its streak of not appearing in an NFC Championship game since 1995. It was pretty obvious to everyone that there was going to be a lot of firing of personnel in Dallas’ camp by owner Jerry Jones‘ interview after loss at the hands of a third-string rookie quarterback.

And it happened. The Cowboys fired their offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who actually had done a great job with backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who won four of the five games he started in the 2022 season after Prescott was injured. This move by the team was called reckless and NFL pundits called out the Cowboys for firing everyone except Dak Prescott who is the main culprit for the repeated failures in the postseason.

Brian Schottenheimer was the coaching analyst for Dallas

After the firing of Kellen Moore, the Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer to offensive coordinator from coaching analyst. Schottenheimer was previously the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 and led the team to the top of the league in rushing offense. Also quarterback Russell Wilson had a career-high 110.9 passer rating under Schottenheimer.

Brian was elated on being named the offensive coordinator and shared the same via Jon Machota: “I am thrilled and thankful for this exciting opportunity and embrace the high standards and expectations that come with this role and the Dallas Cowboys organization. Having long-standing, great respect and appreciation for Mike McCarthy as a person, a leader, and a head coach makes this a very rewarding and compelling moment for me. The ability to win with great teammates that share the same goals, and alignment with how to reach them, makes this special for me and I am very grateful for it.”

Of all the years Brian Schottenheimer has been in the NFL, he only ever tasted success during his time in Seattle. The rest of his tenures have never yielded a good result for the team’s offense. Brian relies on running the ball more often, which will keep Dak Prescott from throwing picks like they are touchdowns. Other than that, it doesn’t look like the Cowboys upgraded themselves by firing Kellen Moore. In retrospect, that seems like a big blunder.

Schottenheimer’s strong suit includes running, play-action passing, and drop back passing when utilized properly might give the Cowboys’ offense a new look and actually make them better for a change. Head coach Mike McCarthy was more than happy to have him join his coaching staff. Let’s just hope that the 2023 Dallas Cowboys finally put a rest to the meme fest about them being a disappointment of a team and earn back the tag of ‘America’s Team.’
