The veteran running back Dalvin Cook and the New York Jets have mutually agreed to part ways before the final game of the NFL 2023-24 season. Now Cook is open to joining a team that is competing for the Super Bowl. There are speculations that Cook can join the Dallas Cowboys who tried to buy him when he was released by the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. Nonetheless, they were not successful in buying him at that time and the RB ended up landing at the Jets squad.
The speculations arose after Dez Bryant, the former wide receiver who played for the Cowboys made an X post. The former WR wrote on X:
Cowboys gotta grab Dalvin Cook! It makes too much sense!Dez Bryant on X
According to a report by CBS Sports, the Cowboys were speculated as one of the favorites to bag Cook earlier. But they had to leave the arena as the Jets’ name came in the scenario. Since the separation had happened, the Cowboys now have an open field to sign the veteran RB. The HC Mike McCarthy has a lot of respect for the RB and that can make the deal happen.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday when he was asked whether the team is still interested in Cook:
Those are questions you are always visiting with and so forth. Obviously I have a tremendous amount of respect for him, played a number of games against [him] when Dalvin was in Minnesota. I have great respect for him.Mike McCarthy on Dalvin Cook
The Cowboys have suffered a little in the absence of a formidable running back this year. Despite Tony Pollard’s performance, the Cowboys only managed to gain 5.0 yards per carry on average.
Poor season of Dalvin Cook for the New York Jets
Dalvin Cook would love to forget the season that he had with the New York Jets. He started the season very well. In the first week, he had 16 touches. However, as the season kept rolling on, the RB became ineffective. He ended up having zero touchdowns and covering only 214 yards. He only had 67 carries.
While signing with the New York Jets, Cook had this conviction that he would be able to play with the legendary Aaron Rodgers. However, the Achilles Injury of Rodgers ended his dream. Throughout his time on the team, he seemed frustrated by seeing more than 36% out of 50% of his snaps going forward. He also expressed his agony over his lack of touches.
Since the shackles of the player have been removed, it is to be seen whether he manages to regain his time.
