On Friday night, Damar Hamlin returned to the field for the first time since his unfortunate cardiac arrest in January. The Buffalo Bills safety walked out on the field feeling nervous as they took on the Indianapolis Colts.
After the game ended, Hamlin told the reporters that he felt anxious while coming down the tunnel. He emphasized that the Bills’ fans can count on him because he cares about what he does.
The 25-year-old was one of the starters on the night and began the game as he had never left. His first significant impact was when he ended a Colts drive by tackling running back Evan Hull just beside the line of scrimmage in 4 and 1.
When asked about how it felt, Damar Hamlin revealed,” I made the choice that I wanted to play; it wasn’t anybody else’s.” A choice that Bills fans would love.
“There ain’t gonna be no hesitation,” he added. “You’ll put yourself at more risk by hesitating. I’m not thinking twice; I’m just playing my game.” (H/T: Buffalobills.com)
The Pittsburgh graduate wants to repay his gratitude to the Bills for picking him back in 2021. He definitely made a statement against the Colts, announcing that he was ready to play in the regular season. Hamlin shrugged off the jitters and finished the game with three tackles.
He had previously stated that his strength comes from his faith. “You can get through anything,” he revealed during the Bills training camp. “My strength is rooted in my faith, which is stronger than any fear.”

Buffalo Bills fans are ecstatic to see Damar Hamlin back in action
It’s not a secret that fans wanted to see Damar Hamlin put in some tackles against the Indianapolis Colts. To Hamlin’s credit, he pinned three attempts during his time on the field, and each one was cheered like they had scored a touchdown.
As the game wrapped up in favor of the Buffalo Bills, fans showed their appreciation for the team’s safety. During Sunday’s segment of SportsCenter, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared that he had received several messages stating how happy they were to see Hamlin play again.
“He played his a** off,” Fowler revealed, as one of the senders wrote. “They were so fired up for him.” He added that the fans pointed to Hamlin’s fearlessness during the tackles. “They kept pointing out that he played with no fear.”
It’s a three-way battle in the Buffalo Bills locker room to be the starting safety. They already have the likes of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. However, Hamlin will see some game time during the regular season. But before that, he may well get more chances during the preseason as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 20.
