The trade of the former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has attracted a lot of opinions. The NFL analysts raised some serious concerns about the team as well. Many believe Fields would thrive in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, the trade received a reaction from the Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell as well.

The head coach of the Detroit Lions shared his thoughts on the decision taken by the Bears. Dan Campbell admitted Fields possessed a huge threat to the Lions. Hence, he felt relieved after the trade. This is what the Lions HC said:

I'm not going to lie, it's nice to have Fields out of that division.

The Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears are divisional rivals. Hence, the intense rivalry and the potential of Fields worried Campbell. In the past three seasons, both teams faced each other in six games. Dan Campbell shares a 3-3 record. Hence, it is understandable why Campbell wanted the rival team’s ‘best attacking’ option to go out.

This is not the first time the head coach has praised the former Bears quarterback, Justin Fields. Last season, when the Baers team was in trouble, and the availability of the quarterback came under the radar, Campbell stood by the quarterback.

Justin Fields has an explosive style of play. He would take the chance if the opposition left too much space despite how dangerous it seemed. However, the Bears could not support him with the right players. Now that the Steelers have acquired him, Fields will back up veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. Learning from a veteran like Wilson could help Fields unlock his special potential.

Justin Fields’ record against the Lions was a cause of concern for the Lions for Dan Campbell

In the Bears’ jersey, Justin Fields played five games against the Detroit Lions. The quarterback shares good stats against the Lions. In his five games against the Lions, he earned eight touchdowns (five passing and three rushing) against just one interception. He threw the ball for more than 843 yards.

However, as a rusher, the QB created more trouble for the Lions. He covered 450 yards as a rusher. In one game against the Lions in 2022, the QB rushed for 147 yards and had a touchdown. Overall, the QB registered over 1,000 yards as a Bears quarterback against the divisional rival.

Such a stat line would make any coach feel fear. Hence, Dan Campbell felt relieved for the Lions. As the Bears traded Fields, it is to be seen whether Caleb Williams will make his foray into the squad for the 2024-25 season.
