The Chicago Bears are one of the worst teams in the NFL this season after 9 weeks of football with a dismal 2-7 record. The team has just not been able to ignite the spark that leads to them getting into a groove on time. The Bears are not just wasting their own season, but they are also wasting the talent of Justin Fields, the team’s quarterback.

While Justin Fields is recovering from a thumb injury, he will have a lot to think about. Dan Orlovsky of ESPN believes the quarterback will be asking himself some hard-hitting questions in his time on the sideline.

It's hard to envision Justin Fields as a Chicago Bear in 2024.

Fields is still on his rookie deal and his contract will conclude in 2025. But there is a possibility that they could trade the quarterback this season. Chicago is going to be getting a top-two draft pick this season as they are at the bottom of the league in terms of rankings. If they decide to use it on another QB such as Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, or Bo Nix, then it would mean that the team is looking to move on from Fields.

Bears have a lot to think about, with or without Justin Fields

Dan Orlovsky goes on to add,

He's going to come back from that injury...and the downside is the season started poorly and then he started to play better and then the injury happens.

The analyst believes that Justin Fields in this six or seven-week window will be wondering if he “should be a Bear next season?”

The top draft pick that Chicago is likely to get is not one that they would use to get themselves a star from a different team in the NFL. Orlovsky feels that unless that top pick is traded in exchange for a quarterback, the Bears should refrain from doing it.

While Tyson Bagent has shown himself to be a pretty reliable backup for Justin Fields, the Bears’ woes continue. The team’s issue is their offensive line. No matter who is at QB, with average blocking, the quarterback will not get enough time to throw the ball. Justin Fields can run and throw. It would be a real shame to see the Bears just waste his talent away and not build around his skillset.
