Running back Dalvin Cook, who was recently released by the Minnesota Vikings in a cost-cutting move, remains a free agent and is currently looking for a new team. Amidst this, former Detroit Lions quarterback and ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky has the right team in mind that could benefit both parties. And that team is the Dallas Cowboys.

“Dallas don’t tell me you’re legit about wanting to do everything that you can do to go win a Super Bowl if you don’t sign Dalvin Cook,”  Dan Orlovsky said on ESPN’s First take. “You’re starting tailback Tony Pollard broke his leg like five months ago. … You want to run the football more with the guy that just broke his leg five months ago?”

The ESPN personality suggests the Cowboys add the talented running back to their roster. The Cowboys just released their star, RB Ezekiel Elliott, in the 2023 off-season. They drafted RB Deuce Vaughn to replace Elliott, but they could still add some veterans to their squad, and former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook fits the bill perfectly.

Orlovsky also added some more reasoning to his claim and asked the question, “Are you a better football team with or without Dalvin Cook? You’re a better football team with them. Go get Dalvin Cook.”

Dalvin Cook would be a great addition to the Cowboys

The Minnesota Vikings made a shocking move by releasing Dalvin Cook, who put up good numbers consistently in the Vikings’ uniform. Any team would gain a lot by adding the explosive running back, but the Cowboys make the most sense for him.

Cook was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. It took Cook two years to get adjusted to the pace of the NFL, but ever since he had a breakout season in 2019, the 5’10” running back has been a major reason for the Vikings’ offensive production.

Cook has registered four 1000+ yards in his short career so far and has received four consecutive Pro Bowl nods. In 2022, Cook looked dominant and accounted for 1468 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns. That kind of production is invaluable, but the Vikings believe they can replace it.

Nonetheless, the 27-year-old running back would be a great asset in the backfield for the Dallas Cowboys, who are currently in one of the toughest divisions in the entire league.

Dallas QB Dak Prescott could use any help he can get to compete with the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. Cook could bring in dynamic rushing talent, and he would also benefit a lot while playing behind the strong O-line of the Cowboys.
