“He plays so slow”: Dan Orlovsky is concerned about Malik Willis NOT playing quickly from the pocket
Dan Orlovsky and Malik Willis
Malik Willis is an incredibly talented footballer who featured for the Liberty Flames and raised a few eyebrows with his gameplay. He also played for the Auburn Tigers football team before transferring to Liberty in 2019. Standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 102 kgs, Willis went to the Westlake High School in Atlanta.
However, he was then transferred to Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia, for his senior year. As a senior, he registered impressive numbers showcasing to everyone why he is rated so highly. The talented quarterback passed for 2,562 yards and rushed for 1,033 yards.
“There is a bit of Russell Wilson competition”: Dan Orlovsky on Malik Willis not playing quickly from the pocket
Many experts rate him highly. Not long ago, not long ago, in an episode of “Get Up,” Matt Miller showered praise on Malik and compared him to Jalen Hurts. Post that, the Steelers had invited Malik to visit the team’s facility on the very last day when the teams were actually allowed to communicate with the prospects ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
However, Dan Orlovsky reckons that Willis is actually too slow from the pocket. “He is such an impressive athlete but the thing that concerns me is that he plays so slow from the pocket, physically more than anything and there are too many examples of it on tape,” Dan said on NFL on ESPN.
“You have to ask the question, why does he play slow from the pocket and I think the two answers are, one – wasn’t asked to do that a lot. The second is a little bit of a Russell Wilson competition because that’s where being that 6-foot quarterback comes into play because you have to create those throwing lanes for him to see,” Dan added.
Without a doubt, there has been a lot of chatter around Willis and it will be interesting to see which team ends up getting him.
