Dan Orlovsky took a dig at Joe Namath after Zach Wilson and the New York Jets did the unthinkable by stopping the dominance of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Coming into the game, the Eagles were one of the two teams in the NFL with a near-perfect win record, and the Jets had only won two games.
Everyone wrote them off after veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers picked up a knock and was possibly out for the season. Despite a brief hiccup, the Jets have managed to keep themselves afloat. The victory over the Eagles makes it 3-3 for Gang Green. If they keep this form intact, the playoffs after 12 seasons remains a real possibility.
After the game, ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky wrote in favor of Zach Wilson on X. Orlovsky called out Joe Namath. The Jets Super Bowl-winning quarterback was unhappy with Wilson’s performance and wanted him out of the facility after losing against the New England Patriots.
“No, I didn’t take anything positive out of it yesterday. It was awful,” Namath said in an interview on Yes Network’s The Michael Kay Show last month. “Why? I thought you were trying to make plays and win. You quit on a play. What is going on? It’s disgusting.”
Then, the retired quarterback’s criticism of Wilson did not end there. He later tweeted, “I’m starting to wonder if Zach’s playing like he’s being coached. He’s making choices that are not intuitive to the quarterback position.”
Zach Wilson and the Jets shut down the Philadelphia Eagles
After Robert Saleh called for 11 kisses to counter the Eagles’ famous tush push, fans and analysts were eager to witness the feat. They were left hanging, however, as the Jets defense was on song and kept quarterback Jalen Hurts quiet for the most part.
Hurts still had a better game compared to Zach Wilson, completing 28 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown. The BYU graduate only managed 19 completions for 186 yards and did not record any offensive TDs.
This proved how much Quincy Williams and C.J. Mosely dominated the game. But the surprise package of the night was Bryce Huff. Despite entering 2023 as a free agent, the Jets decided to keep him on the practice squad. It paid dividends as Huff, combined with Williams and Mosely, got 1.5 sacks, according to ESPN stats, and four quarterback hits on Hurts. They completely shut down the Eagles run game, limiting them to only 80 rushing yards all game.
Saleh and co. have a bye week coming at the wrong time. They would have preferred the momentum to continue. Fortunately for the Jets, they will face the New York Giants when they resume.
