The New York Giants have finally confirmed what everyone was afraid of. Due to a torn ACL in his right knee, quarterback Daniel Jones will not be returning for the remaining season. The head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the news after an MRI exam on Monday.
Giants, so far standing at 2-7 this season, are having trouble digesting the news as they still have eight more games remaining this regular season. Three of which would also not have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor due to his rib cage injury, who took Jones’ place in the three starts, when the QB endured a neck injury earlier this season.

With that being said, the Giants have limited options involving undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito or veteran journeyman Matt Barkley, who recently joined the practice squad, to play against the Dallas Cowboys this week. DeVito has played most of the last two games, in relief of Taylor during the loss to the Jets and Raiders.
During the week 8 game, Jones seemed okay till the late first quarter despite getting injured as he tried to calm himself down by jogging on the sideline. However, as soon as he returned to the field and tried to plant his leg, he collapsed. He didn’t return to the game after this.
In the last six games this season, quarterback Jones has thrown just two touchdowns and six interceptions. During his time with the Giants, Jones suffered several injuries that resulted in him missing many games.
And the same thing is happening again, this season as he would miss the eight games for his 10-month rehab for a torn ACL. It’s not even confirmed whether he will be fully recovered till the first game of next season. However, he is due $35.5M in guaranteed money next season and hence the Giants would desperately want him to be back.
How many times Daniel Jones has missed NFL games?
This isn’t the first time that the quarterback Jones has had to miss out half of the NFL season. In his five professional years, he has endured many injuries. Like last season in Week 4, Jones sprained his ankle in the game against the Bears.

Prior to that, in the 2021 season, he suffered a Grade 1 concussion, during the game against the Cowboys. Later on, he sustained a severe neck injury in the game against the Eagles. Because of this, the Giants QB had to miss six whole games of the 2021 season.
The former Duke star also missed two games of the 2020 season when he suffered thigh and ankle injuries. Throughout his NFL career, Jones lacked consistency and it will definitely be a matter of frustration for the Giants because of his mammoth $160,000,000 contract.
