The New York Giants will continue to be without their franchise quarterback Daniel Jones through Week 8 of the regular season as he is still recovering from his neck injury for nearly the third straight week. This week will be a hard one to get past for New York as the team is expected to miss some starting offensive linemen due to injuries.
Due to the continued absence of Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, the backup for the team, is scheduled to start on Sunday when the Giants take on the Jets. Brian Daboll announced earlier on Friday that Jones will not be available to play on Sunday. Along with him, the team’s running back Gary Brightwell has also been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
The Giants are currently 2-5 as opposed to the Jets record of 3-3. Head Coach Daboll has been reluctant to rush his return considering that he is the future of the Giants. Jones’ current injury was the result of a sack in the Giants’ loss to the Dolphins.
Daniel Jones is recovering from a neck injury
While the injury was bad, it is definitely not season-ending. Head Coach Daboll has said in the recent presser:
Yeah, (his season's) not over. He's getting better. We'll see where he is next week. I don't have a crystal ball with injuries. But he is getting better.
This is not Daniel Jones’ first rodeo with a neck injury. The quarterback was out for 6-games in 2021 over an injured neck.
The team has confirmed that it is not the same injury this time. Tyrod Taylor has played the last two games as the starter and the team is 1-1 with him so far this season. The quarterback completed 66% of his passes and has not committed any turnovers, which is great. The NFL vet has been in the league for nearly 12 seasons and has been the backup for nearly half of the teams he has played for.
