Davante Adams‘ stint with the Las Vegas Raiders has not been the way he envisioned it to be. The primary reason for his decision to go to Vegas was his former college quarterback, Derek Carr. However, after the team’s unsuccessful season in 2022, the Raiders decided to part ways with Carr and opted to bring in Jimmy Garoppolo instead.
This gave rise to the notion that Davante Adams is no longer happy and would want to get out of Vegas because Carr was no longer there. However, the wideout dismissed these reports on The Rich Eisen Show. He did acknowledge that it was hard to see Derek Carr get traded.
I came here to play with Derek. I can't say I would have been here if he wasn't here...it definitely hurt not having him around."
Adams goes on to add:
It definitely took a toll on me when he left...we had a really really tight friendship and spent a lot of time...it definitely hurt not having him around.
However, he understands how the NFL functions. It is a business and as an athlete, if you do not function at your best, teams will cut you loose.
Davante Adams believes New Orleans is a great place for Derek Carr to play in
Davante Adams dismissed the rumors surrounding his displeasure of playing for the Raiders by stating:
I am happy to be a Raider 100%. This is my choice and is something I'm standing by....I'm not happy at every moment with the way things go but I'm definitely proud to wear this uniform.
He has no regrets or second thoughts about staying in Vegas.
Adams has managed to tally 528 yards and 3 touchdowns despite having played with 3 quarterbacks this season in Jimmy Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer, and Aidan O’Connell. He expresses his frustration at times on the field, but this does not mean that he wants out of the Raiders but it just expresses his desire to win and hate losing.
Davante Adams is happy for Derek Carr and believes that he is in the right environment in New Orleans.
It was good for him because he would have had play basically perfect to win over the fans and keep everybody happy.
The Raiders fanbase is impatient. Their 2022-23 season was supposed to be their best bet at making the Super Bowl since 2003 but it ended in a 6-11 season disqualifying them from the playoffs. Fans began to turn against Derek Carr and that is demoralizing for any athlete. Davante concludes by expressing that he wishes well for his former college QB and that this new change is good for him.
