There are many athletes for whom protecting their health is the utmost priority. But Deebo Samuel, with his recent statement, proved he isn’t one of those. He claimed the last thing on his mind right now is protecting his shoulder, as he gets ready to play in the NFC Championship game.
The San Francisco 49ers’ star wide receiver sustained a severe shoulder injury in just nine snaps into the game against the Cleveland Browns in week 6. It was later found to be a hairline fracture due to which Samuel had to miss out on the rest of the game and the following two. The Niners lost all three of those games.
As he returned, San Francisco once again dominated the league and everything seemed right on track for the Super Bowl. Little did they know, Samuel got hit on the same shoulder in just nine offensive snaps against the Green Bay Packers. The receiver had to, once again, miss out on the rest of the game and was marked unsure for the upcoming game– the most crucial conference championship.
But the good news is after the medical testing it was found only a deep bruise, as Samuel confirmed while announcing his status for the Sunday game.
I ain't protecting nothing--At the time, it was hurting really bad. I was kind of scared a little bit. I thought I had fractured again, and I was just all over the place. In a big game like that, I had millions of emotions on the sideline, trying to kind of hold them together for my team.Samuel in the Friday presser
How did Deebo Samuel recover after his second shoulder injury?
While talking to the media, the receiver Samuel also shared how he recovered from his second shoulder injury of the season, that too at the same spot. He credited the training staff, saying they “did a good job.”
As he was taken to the sideline right after getting hit, he spent most of the following week in the training room getting treatment. Because of the efficiency of the Niners’ training staff, Samuel gained his strength and motion quickly.
I feel like they did an outstanding job.
With Samuel as the starter, the Niners averaged 7.1 yards per play and 5.7 yards per play in his absence. As the team prepares for the NFC Championship, having Samuel ready is surely a huge deal for the Niners.
