Deion Sanders has the Colorado Buffaloes 3-0 to begin the 2023 college football season. The program has been the ultimate football buzz in recent times. After a great start to the season against TCU, the Buffs have been on a tear, beating Nebraska and rival Colorado State in the following weekends. Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders is the QB of the team and has been flat out balling through three games.
Playing in the NFL is a certainty at this point for Shedeur Sanders. However, Deion is not thrilled with the idea of his son playing in the NFL just yet. In a recent interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Brooks, Deion opened up about his son’s future. Both his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders play for the Buffs.
“You gotta understand now, you know that we’re never caught off guard with anything,” Sanders said when asked about his son’s NFL future. “Daddy’s been around the block a couple of times. So we’ve discussed every possible scenario that can be had, with both of our sons.” He further continued by saying, “There’s no surprises under the sun with us.”
Deion also talked about what he sees in players to determine if they are ready for the next step. “It’s not about what I’m seeing from them. It’s about a whole lotta other things. Teams, position, round projection, all of that plays a role. Because now, the NIL and who they are, shoot, you could make just as much money here as you can there.”
He concluded by saying Shedeur wants to be a no.1 pick and won’t want to be a ‘backseat’ rider to next year’s projected first overall pick Caleb Williams. “Shedeur don’t wanna be 2 to nobody. He don’t get down like that. So you know people projecting him behind Caleb Williams, and Caleb Williams in phenomenal, but Shedeur ain’t no backseat rider.”
Shedeur’s performances to begin the season have put him in contention as a potential top 5 pick in next year’s draft. He has been great to start the season and will have to continue his elite play to get there. With a coach like Deion, there is every chance that Shedeur will be a top pick, whenever he enters the draft.

Deion Sanders talks about Henry Blackburn and his ‘dirty’ hit on Travis Hunter
The Colorado Buffaloes-Colorado State Rams game was a fiery affair. It was a prime example of a proper rivalry. During the game, CSU’s Henry Blackburn delivered a massive hit on the Buffs’ star two-way player Travis Hunter. It was an illegal hit and Hunter had to leave the game. He was hospitalized and will miss a few games due to a lacerated liver.
Following the massive hit, Blackburn received a lot of death threats on social media. The Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders condemned the threats and said, “Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game, He made a tremendous hit on Travis on the sideline. You could call it dirty, you could call it, ‘He was just playing the game of football.’ But whatever it was, it does not constitute that he should be receiving death threats.”
He further continued, “That this is still a young man trying to make it in life — a guy that’s trying to live his dream and hopefully graduate with honors or degree, committed to excellence and go to the NFL. He does not deserve a death threat over a game.”
Both teams played a phenomenal game with the Buffaloes coming out on top 43-35 in overtime. Blackburn had a good game and Sanders asked for prayers to Blackburn and said that people shouldn’t threaten Blackburn, calling it “absurd”. He said, “I don’t mind getting death threats, I get them every week — but a kid, it’s not good.”
