“Teams want a do-over”: NFL Analyst claims all 32 teams regret passing over Broncos RB Javonte Williams
Javonte Williams
We all love an underdog story, from being overlooked in the NFL draft to becoming a top 10 player in their respective position, it all sounds like a script of a movie. The Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams is living this movie. The entire league has their eyes on him after just one season as he has gotten voted as a top-10 RB in the league already. He has officially arrived.
Williams is the league’s third-best running back and he has the teams that passed him over regretting their choices in the 2021 NFL draft. He was the third RB selected in last year’s draft after Alabama’s Najee Harris went to the Stellers, and Clemson’s Travis Etienne to the Jaguars, both were first-rounders but Javante ended up going in the second round at number 35.
Javonte Williams was ranked 9th overall in the list of the NFL’s top 10 backs”:
Though the Broncos already have a solid house as their RB in Melvin Gordon, Williams was able to get his reps in too, the duo played the season on a 50/50 basis. Williams recorded a total of 903 yards and he touched the ball 203 times recording four TDs. If he was able to do this while he was sharing reps with Gordon, imagine the damage he would have done if OC Pat Shurmur took the handcuffs off of him and let him play without any restrictions.
Javonte can not only run but he can also catch the ball, he recorded 43 passes on 53 targets and ran for a total of 316 yards along with 3 additional TDs. This is just his rookie season. His opponents complained that the RB was extremely hard to tackle and has a powerful arm as well. As per an NFL executive, Williams is extremely hard to take down. “You can’t get him on the ground, can’t tackle him, that kid is really good… But with Williams you just can see defenses feeling like, ‘I’m tired of tackling him.'”
This just gets us excited to watch the running back perform in the 2022 season, his playing time is likely to still be restricted considering Melvin Gordon has not gone anywhere but if anything, this should boost him and motivate him to make the times he steps on the field count. The Broncos’ new HC Nathaniel Hackett will also have an integral role in shaping the RB’s season this year.
This year seems extremely promising for the Denver Broncos, on paper, you can make a solid argument that the team will make it to the Super Bowl, however, how the team chemistry fares out on the field are yet to be seen. The arrival of Russell Wilson, an amazing route runner in Jerry Jeudy, and a great running core makes that offense lethal.
An anonymous source claims that “It takes a village to bring down Javonte Williams.” Williams surely has a lot to still prove, let us see how the running back ends up playing this season.
