During the 2022 season, Derek Carr was benched by the Las Vegas Raiders, leading to a rough breakup between those two. Carr eventually found a new home as he signed a new deal with the New Orleans Saints in the off-season. Now, Carr has opened up about the mental state of him and his wife Heather Carr back when the Raiders benched him for multiple games.
“Once they made my wife cry, that was pretty much over. Once they made her cry, that was out,” Carr told The Fresno Bee on Saturday. “But the love for my teammates is what probably would have made me do it, but the way it worked out and the timing of things, I was just … it was time for me to move on. But who knows? You never know what will happen.”
The four-time Pro Bowl QB Derek Carr lost the starting QB job last season after a rough week 15 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Raiders’ second-string QB Jarrett Stidham took over the starting QB role in week 16 and week 17 games, both of which the Raiders lost. After the benching, the Raiders released Carr as expected in the off-season in a cost-cutting move.
Soon, the veteran quarterback found a new home as he signed a massive 4-year $150 million deal with the New Orleans Saints back in March. Carr claimed that the Raiders making his wife Heather Carr cry by benching him was the last straw that broke his relationship with the Raiders after playing for them for many years.

The former Raiders QB Derek Carr moved to a better situation

After getting cut by the Raiders, the 32-year-old quarterback Derek Carr signed a 4-year deal with the Saints, where he will try to lead them to a Super Bowl victory in the near future.
Carr has actually moved to a better situation after getting cut by the Las Vegas-based football team. Carr has gone from one of the toughest divisions in the league, AFC West, to arguably the weakest division in the league, i.e. NFC South.
In the NFC South, the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers are currently in their rebuilding phase and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just lost Tom Brady to retirement. So, the Saints with their stacked team are the favorites to win the NFC South.
The Saints could easily clinch a playoff spot by winning the weak NFC South division. After that, it’s anybody’s game. If the Saints could add one or more talented players in the offensive line and linebacker positions, they would certainly be competing for the Super Bowl soon under the leadership of Derek Carr.
