Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr made a big money move to the New Orleans Saints in what has so far been one of the highlights of the NFL 2023 offseason. He signed a four-year contract extension worth a whopping $150 million including a $100 million in guaranteed salary over the period.
The 32-year-old quarterback ended his nine-year association with the Raiders on a sour note, as he ended up getting benched for the final two games of the regular season. He did not have the best of seasons personally, as head coach Josh McDaniels‘ offensive plays failed to bring the best out of him.
Derek Carr acknowledged the fact that he could not have the desired impact throughout his stay with the Raiders over these nine-year years, during which he had only one postseason appearance. He apologized for his performances claiming that wasn’t in the best frame of mind, and that the coaches and his teammates deserved better.

Derek Carr wants to get into his best form for the Saints

“They just didn’t get my best, and that drove me crazy at the end of the year because I felt so spread out in so many different ways,” Carr said during minicamp this week. “I just didn’t feel like myself, and I feel bad for the (Raiders) coaches and players.”
Carr, however, will be buoyed by the fact that his move to the New Orleans Saints has reunited him with former Raiders head coach Dennis Allen in 2014. Allen was instrumental in drafting the quarterback for the Raiders back in 2014 and has already thought of ways to bring him into his best form cometh the start of the 2023/24 season.
Derek Carr’s wife is Heather Neel. The QB too is hopeful of change in his fortune, with the change in the offensive setup at the Saints. Although he won’t be able to link up with his good friend, Davante Adams, he will have the able services of the likes of running backs Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams to get things up and running for him.
“I’ve tried my best to get back to that,” Carr said. “Hopefully it leads to some success. It’s going to be a great lesson for me to learn to help some guys down the road when they go through a coaching change or a shift in whatever they’re doing.”
