On Saturday, the Cleveland Browns, led by their franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, went against the Kansas City Chiefs in their third and final preseason game. In the thrilling encounter, the Browns lost the game 32-33 but their QBs, Watson and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, both looked good on the field.
Particularly, the veteran QB Deshaun Watson looked like he had gotten his old form back. During the 1st quarter of the game, when the Browns were leading 15-3, Watson made an impressive that silenced the Arrowhead crowd.
Watson received the snap from the shotgun position and when the pocket collapsed, the veteran QB scrambled and threw a dime in motion to a wide-open Amari Cooper, who completed the catch for a gain of 53 yards. Check out the footage below.
Watson’s impressive athleticism was on point, but he slightly underthrew the ball because of the angle. Overall in the game, Watson completed 5 of his 10 passes for 92 yards and 1 touchdown. Apart from Watson, the Browns’ rookie quarterback Thompson-Robinson also looked sharp in the game as he completed 7 of his 12 passes for 92 yards.
Nonetheless, the Browns fans could hope to see the Pro Bowl Watson back and lead their franchise to a deep postseason run in the upcoming season. The Cleveland-based football team has a strong roster and if Watson can tune back to his Houston Texans days, the Browns have a real shot at winning the AFC North division for the time in franchise history.
Deshaun Watson looking to solidify his elite status in 2023
During the 2022 off-season, the Cleveland Browns shocked everyone by signing the controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson to a 5-year fully guaranteed contract worth up to $230 million.
However, last season, he didn’t look like a quarterback who was worth that money. Watson was suspended for the first 11 games due to s*xual assault allegations, but he didn’t even look good when he was on the field.
The 3-time Pro Bowl QB registered 1102 passing yards, 7 passing touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in the 6 games he started for the Browns. Besides, he had an abysmal completion percentage of 58.2, the lowest in his career.
Watson had three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons before he decided to sit out the entire 2021 season. And then, the off-field issues might have affected his game in 2022. But now, Watson is only focusing on football and is looking to prove that he is still an elite QB in the 2023 NFL season.
