DeVante Parker, WR for the New England Patriots, suffered a brutal concussion in the MNF matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The WR quickly went on the ground after receiving a heavy tackle. The incident in the first quarter was when Parker caught a second down pass from Patriots QB Mac Jones and instantly he was tackled by the Cardinals defender and immediately hit the ground.
After getting up, Parker looked visibly shaken and was struggling to walk in a straight line indicating a concussion. However, this major incident was ignored by the match officials who let the game go on, and both teams lined up for their next play.
Parker lined up next to his teammate, WR Nelson Agholor. The Patriots WR looked at his teammate and frantically started to wave his hands, asking the officials to stop the game.
The Patriots-Cardinals game was then put to a halt while Parker received his treatment for the concussion. The 29-year-old then left for the locker room for further treatment. It was later announced that Parker has been ruled out of the game due to a head injury.
DeVante Parker’s missed concussion wasn’t a one-off incident this season
DeVante Parker suffered a brutal concussion that was missed by the game officials and he was allowed to play on. This has happened before, only the player getting concussed was different. During the start of the season, Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered a similarly unfortunate fate as he suffered a concussion in recurring games but was still allowed to play on.
The match officials were scrutinized for allowing the Dolphins QB to play, as it could have aggravated the head injury. The same could have been the case for Parker. Although his teammate Nelson Agholor was cautious and checked up on his teammate, which helped him to get the much-needed medical help.
The NFL is one of the most physical leagues in the world and the officials need to be on their best to spot various injuries that could cause serious damage due to the physicality of the league. Although the officials do their best when flagging wrong plays or indecent fouls, some go unnoticed and it leads to outrage from the media and the fans.
The Patriots later went on to win the game with a score of 27-13, all thanks to their incredible defense. The Patriots have now equaled the Jets’ record and have moved up to third place in the AFC East.
