“I DEFINITELY would’ve went to jail”: Packers LB De’Vondre Campbell threatens to become violent against the police

A.J Dillon

If the NFL began to give out awards for the team that creates the most drama, the Green Bay Packers would probably get it. The team seems to have a lot going on within the organization in the offseason, last year it was Aaron Rodgers and his contract talks, this year, it is AJ Dillon who was for no evident reason or a misunderstanding at best, shoved by an officer of law enforcement.

The incident took place at Lambeau Field, home of the Packers. While the Manchester City Vs Bayern Munich friendly match was in progress, Dillon decided to give the home fans a little extra appreciation so he attempted to jump up and interact and entertain the crowd. The soccer match was delayed by 30 minutes due to the weather so what Dillon did was not entirely wrong or unlawful by any means.

Here’s where things get interesting, Dillon attempted to do a ‘Lambeau Leap’ one of the signature moves of the Packers, and reportedly even got permission from two security personnel. The running back came down from the stands and got onto the field and just as he did this, a cop comes out of nowhere and rather than politely requesting him to return to his seat or understand the situation entirely, he decided to get violent.

The cop yanked the running back by his collar and the two got into a heated exchange, after the incident the cop got a beer cup straight to the head by a fan from the crowd, the entire fanbase was not having this. However, the cop and Dillon seem to have moved past the incident as the running back dismissed the incident stating that it was nothing but “miscommunication between parties.”

Though the running back was gracious enough to brush the incident off, his teammates were not as forgiving. De’Vondre Campbell, the star linebacker for the Packers was not having this, he went all in on the cop in question and posted a tweet criticizing him. “I ain’t tripping about the grab because I would’ve immediately got up outta that but after AJ talked to him and he still shoved him afterward, I definitely would’ve went to jail,” he concludes.

Props to Dillon for being mature about the situation, anytime a cop misbehaves in this way, it leads to speculation that the race of the person had something to do with it, if there was another white man there, let alone a stranger, if Aaron Rodgers was there instead of Dillon, there is no way he’s even getting approached by any cop. Campbell vouched for his teammate and stated that he would definitely respond to violence with violence and if he had to go to jail for that, so be it. It is unfortunate to see such a huge scene happen due to a mere misunderstanding.
